For Denise and my ten year wedding anniversary, we went to Hawaii. While I know that most of you would rather see pictures of Timothy and Brittany, you will have to wait until next month's update.

Denise and I had a wonderful trip visiting the islands to Oahu, Kaua'i, Maui, and the Big Island of Hawaii….

Picture #2
Denise and I were able to spend some time on the beaches and see a number of sunsets and even one sunrise. This is a picture of the sunset we watched on our last night before heading home. Interestingly enough, we didn't take this picture (we're in it - at the bottom left). A tourist was behind us taking pictures of the sunset, and was kind enough to send us this picture!

On Kaua'i we rented a Jeep, which enabled us to take some dirt roads, to get us to a hiking trail, where we hiked to a secluded waterfall. Without jumping off a cliff into the small pond below there was no getting into the water. So this picture is of us on top of the fall in the brook feeding the falls.
On Kaua'i we also took a kayak/hike to a waterfall.

The hiking part was pretty muddy. We took this picture while we were cleaning off our feet!
Most of the "sites" of Hawaii are pretty unrestricted (no signs or fences). At this site, Spouting Horn, there actually was a sign. the sign read.. "Danger, Stay behind fenced boundaries. Rocks are dangerous, use common sense". Denise convinced me that those statements conflicted, so here is a picture of Denise (and me) about 100 yards past the fence, close to the blow hole.

Consistent with the "unrestricted nature" theme, we hiked the Napali Coast, with no fences, signs, or railings, but very steep cliffs.
Ok, I have to first say that Denise had a book that said we should ignore the "No Trespassing signs". See the "closed" road behind us, well we went around the gate, and drove about 10-15 miles on these coffee roads looking for a secluded beach.

Again, the Jeep pays off! We found some dirt road hunting trails, which let us see some beautiful parts of the Waimea Canyon.
Here is a picture of me at the top of Waimea Canyon. What a fun drive up! Switchback roads with no guardrail, and beautiful cliffs right at the edge of the narrow roadways! Denise really got close and personal to some great views!

The Queen's Bath. This water was so crystal clear, you would swear that you could touch the rock bottom below your feet. Those rocks were pretty far below!
One night we went for a romantic dinner at the Hyatt on Kaua'i.

We were seated right next to an opening overlooking the Koi pond. After the waiter saw that Denise was going to continue to feed the fish the bread from our breadbasket, he came over with a cup of fish food. Check out all of these fish!
Denise is standing under one tree on Waikki beach. This tree is called a Banyan Tree. It drops roots from its branches, that attach to the ground to form another attached tree.

The waterfall of luxury! The pool at the Hyatt.
Ok, the most adventurous part of our trip…. A helicopter ride! We saw live lava flows oozing down mountain sides (burning up trees), and also spurting into the ocean.

Denise took this picture of an exhaust from our helicopter.
On Maui, we took a horseback riding trip down into the Heleakala Crater. Thankfully we didn't attempt this on foot!

The Haleakala summit. 10,000 feet above sea level.
Check it out! We are above the clouds!

On the Big Island of Hawaii, we went to the Volcano National Park. Here is Denise at the top of the Kilauea Caldrea
After driving across some lava covered roads, we hiked to the shore line to watch the lava flow into the ocean. Kind of like hiking on the moon…
